Welcome to Bagnell Farm
Bagnell Farm is situated in a beautiful valley on the Somerset/Dorset border. It consists of 200 acres of steep hill land, 150 acres of which is ancient, permanent pasture, with the rest being woodland and conservation areas. The grassland is full of wild flowers and herbs which are excellent for grazing. The herd of pedigree Red Ruby Devon cattle and a pedigree flock of Jacob sheep were chosen as they would thrive on this type of land.
Red Ruby Devon cattle are beautiful, docile animals. They are hardy and tolerate extremes of climate and are a great choice for conservation grazing as recommended by Natural England. The meat from these animals is tender and is unrivalled in texture and flavour. Red Ruby Devons are not only hardy and easy to manage but they are excellent, easy-calving, milky mothers.
Jacob Sheep are an ancient breed which lamb easily and are excellent mothers. They frequently have twins and triplets are not uncommon. They are a slow maturing animal and therefore our lambs stay with their mothers until they are six months old and are not slaughtered for meat until they are over a year old. The meat is tender and lean with very good flavour.
